Hugo Pereira Wins in Braga and increases lead in the Championship

It was a great weekend with the best drivers in Europe competing in the European touring car Championship, which brought great racing and many enthusiastic fans to the north of Portugal.

Race one
Hugo Pereira did a fantastic last lap to out-qualify the two Porsches and put his radical SR3 in pole-position for the first race gaining an extra point for it. With a wet track, the racing was promising to be fun and Hugo was looking forward to score some important points to maintain his lead in the championship. “It was a great race fighting with the Porsches in very tricky conditions. I lost the lead in the start to the faster Porsche GT3 and could not overtake him during the first half of the race as I was struggling for visibility, so decided to stay close and not risk the race. The two Porsches have to stay in the pits for 120 seconds against my 200seconds pit-stop. With this difference in pits-tops it was impossible to catch the Porsches in the track and I fell to 3rd overall, winning my category.”

Race Two

Hugo started the 2nd race from the position he finished the 2nd race in 3rd position. During the rolling start, the Porsches gained a bit of a lead, but Hugo with a brave late braking move, managed to climb into 2nd position. With the track drying, it was clear that the Radical SR3 was faster than the Porsche GT3 and the move to the lead happened on the 6th lap of the race. Hugo started to gain a good lead and enters the pits in 1st position. Again with the difference times in the pit-stops, Hugo rejoined the race in 3rd position and was closing the gap quickly. The safety car came in three laps from the end, which closed the gap in the front. Hugo was preparing to attack both Porsches, but the safety-car never left the track and the race resumed behind the safety-car, with Hugo in 3rd position overall and winning his class.

“It was a difficult weekend with changes in the weather and the pressure of acquiring as much points to maintain the lead in the championship without making a mistake. It was great fun fighting with the Porsches in these conditions, I am disappointed by losing the race in the pit-stops but very happy to win my class and gain precious points for the championship.”

Next and last race will be held in the Algarve circuit on the 7-8th of November where Hugo will be fighting for race wins and win the championship in style.

Sportive regards,

Hugo Pereira
